The ammonia HPLC method is a standard technique used to analyze ammonia gas in water, soil and air samples. The method involves the following steps:
1. A sample is injected into an organic solvent.
2. Ammonia is extracted into the organic solvent using a chemical reaction.
3. The organic phase containing ammonia is separated from the water phase using a centrifuge or filtration device.
4. The amount of ammonia present in each sample is determined by measuring its UV absorption at 270 nm after adding an internal standard called tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH).
